[Penalty Kick] A borderline sliding tackle inside the penalty area

Whether the slide was a fair challenge is the central question here, and this was an extremely difficult incident to judge. In the footage, the defending player from Shimizu slides towards the ball, but appears to make contact with the left leg of the Tokyo Verdy attacking player before touching the ball. At the same time, the attacking player also appears to put their left leg out towards the defender, blocking their path. The referee on the field judged this split-second entanglement to be a foul and awarded a penalty kick. The contact is close enough that an offence by either player could be argued, and it is a highly demanding decision that generated considerable debate.
