Show explanationHow the footage and Laws apply
Although the offence occurred deep in their own half, the referee read the situation carefully and applied advantage, an excellent decision. When an offence occurs deep in a team's own half, the goal is a long way away, so it is difficult to judge whether an advantage will accrue and it is easy to decide to stop play. In that situation the referee assessed the circumstances, including the way Jubilo Iwata were building their possession, and applied advantage. The replay shows that the Jubilo Iwata player wanted to carry the ball forward with momentum, and that Tokushima Vortis players were pressing from the front, with Iwata having played through that press. It is likely that the advantage was applied with these elements in mind. A goal came from this excellent advantage, and it is a valuable example for match officials.
